The Green Foundation Trust is a grass roots organisation established in 2004 by a dedicated family living on Mount Meru’s slopes, just a few kilometres east of Arusha. As an integral part of the local community we believe that it is through education and the well-informed hard working efforts of individuals, both local and from abroad, that we can work together to improve substantially the rural standard of living in northern Tanzania.
By putting such ideas into action we have been, amongst other projects, striving to conserve the environment through tree planting; providing valuable work life skills to women’s groups; and continuing to assist local economies and to promote a wider understanding of the threats facing rural communities, through our TTB award-winning cultural tourism programmes. By joining the fight against such menaces as ignorance, illegal logging and deforestation, we aim to create a better environment for future generations to use and enjoy. We hope that you will join us in this fight.
Our volunteer programmes have been assisting the Arusha region particularly in the Meru and the Maasai communities, in the following areas:
• tree planting projects with women’s groups
• teaching in nursery and primary schools
• HIV and AIDS prevention and awareness programmes
• caring for children at orphan centres
• providing labour to community development projects
• assisting local communities in starting their own cultural tourism programmes
By participating in our programmes volunteers provide the essential funding needed for new project resources, vocational training facilities as well as the invaluable manpower for our outreach programmes in the region.
